You must be a resident of California to file (must live in California for at least 6 months and in the county for at least 3 months)

 A Step-parent Adoption occurs when 2 people marry and one has a child from a previous relationship.  The new spouse may wish to adopt his/ her spouse's child and then can file for a step-parent adoption.  Step-parent Adoptions can proceed with the consent of the parent wishing to give up his/ her parental rights, or if the parent has abandoned the child/children. If you have the consent of the parents, the matter will proceed with an evaluation by the Adoption agency. There is a short court appearance whereby the judge usually approves the Adoption. If the Adoption proceeds by way of abandonment, there will also be an evaluation and a hearing date to approve the adoption. With abandonment, there will also be a termination of the rights of the abandoning parent.  If a parent does not consent to the adoption, there will be hearing and the judge will decide whether the Adoption will proceed or not.

If after the consultation with the attorney, you decide to proceed with your legal matter any refunds later requested will be considered based on the work that was done.  No request for a refund will be honored after 30 days.
