Why Does it Take 6 Months to Finalize a Divorce in California?

The state legislature made the ‘6 month divorce’ decision when California’s constitution was created.  The time frame for the finalization of a divorce varies from state to state.  In California it takes a minimum of 6 months and 1 day from the date of service to finalize a divorce.  Some people advertise that they offer a ‘quick’ divorce, however the 6 month time frame is as quick as it gets.  The minimum 6 month time frame is fixed and does not vary in California.
