Can I change my name as an adult?

It’s easy to change your name as an adult since you do not require consent. In certain instances, you may not be able to change your name. An example of this would be if you have a criminal record.

What do I need to do if I want to change the name of my child?

A name change for a minor (under the age of 18) can be accomplished even if one parent does not consent. However, the non-consenting parent then must be given notice. Also, if the child is over the age of 14 years, he/she must also consent to the name change.
