This could occur due to an illness, accident or other mishap. It could also be necessary if one moved out of the country or was incarcerated. In most cases, however, it is used for the elderly when dementia may occur. No matter what the cause, the Financial Power of Attorney would assure that a trusted family member or friend would handle the necessary financial dealings. It is most important that the Financial Power of Attorney be prepared when the person is of 'sound mind'. If the person for whom the Financial Power of Attorney is needed, is not of 'sound mind' then this document could not be prepared and a Conservatorship may be required.
