That's a great question! In California, we offer people an attorney-assisted method which allows you to have attorney advice and oversight throughout the case, without paying an hourly and retainer fee. We file your paperwork, serve your wife by mail and do the final documents if your wife does not respond. If your spouse wishes to cooperate and agree on your issues (if you have issues like division of property, spousal support, child support, custody & visitation--then we can also prepare a Marital Settlement Agreement for an additional low flat fee). However, if your spouse contests and responds, then we offer low flat fees for a request for trial setting, trial brief and we can also have an attorney in court with you for the trial.
In other words, we offer a flat fee model to cover most areas that occur in a typical divorce.
We feel that ordinary middle class should have an alternative to the high cost of attorneys--but one that is legally sound. We also feel that in most cases the 'full representation' model is not necessary and is too costly for most people. That is why we have created this low flat fee method!
